Need help in identifying breed

Dear friends,
I have a new addition to my family but am a stranger to tortoise.
Would appreciate if you guys and help in identifying the breed of my tortoise.

Looks to be a RES.... Red eared slider turtle. :D

Welcome to TFO! :) Is this your first turtle? How did you happen to decide to get him?

thanks for the help friends! yup we found her at our balcony one morning.
Anyway, how do we differentiate the genders?

That's a nice big female red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans), all right - a popular pond turtle.

Note: there are no turtle breeds. The different types of turtle out there are simply wild species that can be kept as pets.

A close up of the claws and the tail would be helpful. Like you were told, long nails are on the males. They use them in a fan dance sorta courtship dance thing. :cool:
