just found out my tort lost a nail. is this normal or health issue? need advise. thank you.

Is that a sulcata? I don't really know myself but I haven't seen anything like that with my sulcata. @TechnoCheese any thoughts?

Can you post a picture of the foot?

I don’t think I have enough experience, but I haven’t seen anything like that either.
Could he have caught it on something?
Does he have regular exposure to uvb?
Is he supplemented with calcium, or fed high calcium foods?
@Tom and @Yvonne G , any thoughts?

Is that tortoise a single tortoise in the enclosure? If yes, likely a physical injury, just keep flushed clean a couple times a day and will eventually grow back...

Oh ouch! That has to hurt. I saw the leg picture with the little bloody spot and it didn't affect me, but when I got to the nail-sitting-by-itself picture, it made my stomach clench! Yipes!!! Just try to keep it clean, like Ascot said. It will harden off and be fine eventually. As with any raw wound, watch for fly eggs.
