okay firstly I would like to say hi to everyone on the forum, im new to the forum and new to owning tortoises, I've owned two horsefield tortoises for about 3 months now, and they live at home with me, however I would now like to get a new setup for them that I would keep at my army barracks as that's where I spend most of my time, I am not keen on having a tortoise table for them at my army barracks, even though that's what I currently use for them at my home. basically my questions are:
1. is the exo terra 90x45x30 tank good enough for them?
2. how many lamps would you suggest for that size tank?
3. where can I purchase a hide that's big enough for two adult tortoises
4. what good decoration could I add to the tank?

also I would like to add that the tortoises are exercised daily as they get the free run of my room, and I have installed lamps in all the corners of my roon and got a couple of boxes for them to hide in

The exo terra is a beautiful tank, however, it's way too small for even one russian tortoise, let alone three of them. And I certainly would NOT let them wander the floor of the barracks. There's just too much danger there for a free-roaming tortoise. I can understand your wanting to have your tortoises closer to where you spend most of your time, but if it were me, I would not do it.

Here's a link to the terrarium for others to see:

Any aquarium/tank is going to be far too small for these guys. Is there a relative that could keep them for you?

cheers for your help guys and yes there is, however id prefer to have them with me, ive seen plenty of owners keeping tortoises in 36" tanks im talking at least 3 tortoises, surely people have kept them in tanks before and could just tell me a rough size id need?

I don't keep russians, but my guess is that if those dimensions were in inches instead of centimeters it might be large enough for your purpose. I too have seen tortoises kept in 36" aquariums, but there is an huge difference between surviving and thriving. Yvonne's advice in the above post is clearly suggestive of what is best for the tortoises. When it comes to a minimum size tank for a tortoise to grow and thrive and be a tortoise I don't think that anyone really has an answer.

I have a hatchling hermanns in a 39"x15" and he is already pacing and feeling cramped after just two months. If that's too small for a 2.5" baby, I can't imagine having 2 adult Russians (one of THE MOST active species!) in something not much bigger. A minimum for 1 Russian is 4'x8', really...and keeping two together is really not a good idea.
