Tonight i returned my regular basking bulb and my repti glo 10.0 and got a Powersun Mvb. i have been researching non stop since i got igore, and every article i read, just made me feel like i needed it more and more. I love my tort to death. And i realized its a small price to pay when it comes to improving the health of my tortoise.

Good move:D In my opinion. But others have done fine with the other kind also. I like the MVB, it is suppose to be the best one to use.:D. Also suppose to last longer. I was told 3 years others say less. I know by my marine/coral aquariums, the tube kind uv last 6 months and then are suppose to be changed put.

well had to choose between the powersun and the solar glo, and the solar glo had terrible reviews, and it sounded like my repti glo could put out better uv levels then the solar glo. I figure ill at least use a mvb during the winter months. And run a regular basking bulb, and repti glo bulb, and taking igore outside for a few hours a week

my only concern now is that its not bring my basking spot up to my desired temp

That was a good decision, I think.
You can move the bulb itself (might be recessed in the fixture) to within 12" of the tort's shell (no closer). Do you have a really good thermometer? If it is 12" away, it would be very surprising if you did not achieve 95 to 100F. So you might be doing better than you think.

Or the 'point and shoot' version

Im in the heating an Air conditioning field, so i have a very nice electrical/ temperature meter. You were right that it was better then i thought, the way my temperature probe was sitting in the enclosure, it was reading an ambient air temp around 85 which is good on my warm side. and after i positioned the probe better it read into the 90s. thanks for giving me the 12" i couldnt find anything with the paper work on proper distances

I had never considered his shell when i was positioning the basking lamp. i always was going between the bulb and the substrate. Igore and I thank you :)
