If I feed or grow shrooms, and quaduple check five times over to male sure they're safe. Or just buy them from the store just in case  Yes, I would a very close eye on that to make sure nothing else grows that you don't know about!

Some of the wild mushrooms can be deadly toxic. As Kelly noted they can be VERY difficult to ID, even for people who study them. I would not let my tortoises eat any mushrooms that were not of the store bought, safe for human consumption variety.

Here with the rains and rotting matter here and there, mushrooms will pop up over night and be eaten or trampled before I've even seen them myself.

Well then you had better hope that none of the toxic ones pop up and get eaten.

Eurgh. I have this problem ALL the time as summer turns into autumn. I have to do a daily mushroom sweep. I hate them. Something about them
cropping up overnight creeps me out. It's actually worse where I live now as my turf is freshly laid, the soil is very compacted and the grass is just saturated by dew most mornings.

Just make sure you check your enclosure daily and pick them before they spread spores. Shudder.

This years crop are very small and dainty. I can't be sure, but it looks like the sunlight also kills them. I went out for a look this morning at about 4:00 a.m. while walking the dog. There were several dozen. I'll do a search on the internet as to what type, etc.

I had read an article a few years ago that American Indians wouldn't eat box turtles because they always saw them eating poisonous mushrooms and thought they may be poisonous also.
