I recently mounted my basking bulbs inside my enclosure. I noticed they are heating up the wood they are attached to. Any suggestions?

That looks like a plastic recepticle. The bulb should be mounted in a ceramic recepticle. As for the too hot problem, let's ask @Markw84

What gauge wire did you use to wire up the light? If its too small it could be the cause of your issue.

ok. that should be fine. You might just need a heat shield to dissipate the rising heat from the bulb. I would try tin foil first to see if it helps and then look for a more permanent solution

How hot is the wood getting when you say its 'heating up the wood"? Do you have something between the wiring and the wood?
It is veey warm to touch. The kit camp with a waterproof insulation foam to place between the fixturevand where its mounted

Something like 100-120*f? That's probably normal, and well below the ignition temperature of the wood. Ideally, the lampholder/cover would be mounted to a junction box; that would both take it out of contact with the wood, reducing the heat transfer to the wood and provide a wiring compartment.

I took it down for now and went back to ny previous hearing system because I'm at work today and was afraid something would happen. I can get a junction box and try again. I have seen these in metal and plastic. Which one would be best?

Does anyone know how I could make or add a dome to this fixture? I took a part one of my clamp domes to try it out but the opening is slightly to small

You can line the lid with reflective aluminum insulation tape from 3M. Works great for regulating heat, and redirecting/bouncing light. I've even used it on an umbrella for bouncing light for photography! Very versatile stuff.
