Good thing about the dirt, it makes the yellow pop. That kind of dirt need two to three days of heavy rain to shine them up. Looking great.
Huh, like us then. I like snow. We've had 55f and constant rain.This time of year we usually have to settle for snow. Although it was 65 on Christmas Eve...
Great colors! Nice shells too.
It seemed a bit daft starting a thread to ask this when some of the top RF members are in this thread, so hope you don't mind me hacking into your thread redstrike.Thanks Carl! They have some minor bumps but overall I'm pretty happy with their carapi. I'm glad you could notice the colors through all the dirt...
@Anyfoot - that tortoise is Rafiki, I vacillate on their genders. They're right at the subadult stage where they can be pretty ambiguous for male vs. female morphologies. I'm ~90% confident Mimosa is a female, that's the only one I feel relatively confident about. I thought Rafiki was a male but I caught him/her sitting in a freshly dug hole the other day. Very suspicious.
@christinaland128 - two are 5, two are 4.5.

Can northerns marble?
I have 2 northerns around the 10 and 12" mark and are showing signs of marbling. I also have suspicions that they could be northern x cherry though, with the head morph looking more cherryhead.
See how it goes. I can give them a good wash for photos and start a thread tomorrow. The marbling is only slight but its definitely there. I've had them about 18momths now, there was no marbling when I got them.No worries.
I believe northern populations can marble, it's just not as common as we see in eastern ("cherryhead") populations.
Let's see what some of the big Whigs say. You may have to start a new thread as many may not revisit this thread.
Not a Whig or Tory (ba dum bah! Add corny music) but, yes northerns can marble but not as often. I'd like pictures, or it doesn't exist...rules of the Internet...
Ok, I'll start another thread. Bin busy today, got roped into taking xmas trimmings down, roll on tomorrow, back to work for a break. lolHaha, well said! I second the pictures notion.
Very stunning tortoises!!!I don't want to over do it but here's more of the group from this morning.
I wet them down to try and get some of the dirt off but I don't think it was overly successful.
