Hi folks...

Ok. So my 15-year-old desert tortoise Waffles loves to be inside the house. He has exclusive run of the yard and plenty of hiding space.

However, he has now broken out the screen to my sliding door just so he can come in and roam around.

So my question is this; can a desert tortoise thrive indoors? I made sure to put him back outside to sun himself, but he soon made his way back to my chair. lol

Any advice? And thanks!

He can. He just needs big enclosure with lots space, heat and proper UVB. It is ALWAYS better for them to be outdoors, but as long as he gets a few hours of natural light and to be outside in the fresh air, then he can do well inside.

As long as he is getting regular sun exposure you do not need UV inside your house and under your circumstances with him able to sun regularly, I'd avoid it.
