On May 19th Chloe (Russian) laid an egg that was around half the size of the other eggs that she had laid on April 3rd. I did not think it would be fertile, however, it was. It was due to hatch on July 18th. I candled it on around July 22nd. The air space at the top looked so big and the dark area at the bottom looked so small that I thought the baby had died before it was fully formed. Much to my amazement, on July 25th the mini egg started hatching and on July 26th out came the tinest little Russian tortoise that I have ever seen. Some of my other Russians which hatched on July 19th, 20th and 21st look SO BIG next to her. When she came out her yolk sac was fully obsorbed. I left her in the incubator for a few hours, then took her out, soaked her and put her in the indoor enclosure, and to my amazement she walked over the took a few bites of food. She is so precious.

In the first picture Mini is on the left, the one in the middle hatched around July 23rd, and the right on the right hatched around June 7th.

Glad you didn't discard her egg. That's one you need to keep so you can keep us posted .

WOW!!! So tiny! So, let me get this straight: the 3 hatchlings are from the same clutch??? Even the one that's almost 4X bigger?

They are from three different clutches. Minnie and the largest one are from the same mother, but different clutches. The one in the middle is only a few days older than Mininie and is from a different clutch of eggs (I didn't see which female laid that clutch). :)

Aw, that's just the cutest little thing. Half normal size. And to start eating right away. I'd say you have a keeper there.
