Hello, im hoping for some advice please, im totally ignorant to this subject. I have 2 male horsfields both of them are 13cm in size, now im a qualified microchipper in my dog grooming salon and i chip all types of animals daily but ive never done a tortoise. I would like to have both mine chipped. Is this possible firstly? If so can i do this myself or do i need a specialist type of person for a tortoise? Thanks in advance for your help.

No worries. The staff members here are very good and diligently watching and answering each and every thread. Someone will get back on this topic soon. I have to believe this subject been discussed before. Staffs may redirect us to some old thread that related to chipping our Torts.

It's possible, and seems to be more common in the UK than in the US. Whether or not you can do it would be more of a question of whether you are comfortable doing so. I can't imagine it would be that different than doing other animals.

I am not a fan of the microchipping at all...so perhaps wait around a bit to get the info you are asking for...but my post will give your thread a bump back to the front line for awhile....:D

We routinely microchip all sorts of exotics, torts included. Chipping them is similar but not the same as chipping a dog or cat. I am in favor of chipping but I would not have anyone but a good tort Vet do it to my own kiddo.

Yes, tortoises can be chipped. We have several members that has had it done. I have heard some are put in the back leg. Not sure if that's the only place. I would recommend calling a vet that may do it in your area and asking him for some instructions.
