Does metronidazole make torts sleepy, inactive or generally unhappy. Mine seems all of the above and in 4 days into treatment.

I've read that tortoises often go off their food while undergoing antibiotic treatment. What kind of parasite are you treating against?

How are you keeping your tortoise during the treatment (temperature wise etc.)?

Flagellate parasites the exact names of which I can't recall at the moment. He is still eating well. I've got his temp around 97 on the basking side and high 70s on the cool end. Maybe I should run the Che too to warm it up further?

Sounds good to me, but then again I am still quite inexperienced.

From what I've read, metronidazole should be quite a good antibiotic if you give the dosis that was perscribed.

Is your tortoise lethargic or what do you mean by unhappy?

Just moving about less, more hiding. He's ok...just not quite himself, considering yesterday he was scaling walls! I just thought maybe the meds might make him feel groggy or nauseated...sort of like some do for us.

It probably is. Having to take medicine is never nice!
Just keep an eye out for any strange behaviour other than lethargy and he should be just fine! If you are really worried (and I am really not a specialist and/or qualified in giving medical advice) you could alway try calling the vet about his opinion. :)

How long do you have to give him the meds?

I've got two gigantic bottles of MET powder. It's very effective for killing parasites in tropical fish. I didn't know that it was used in the cure of non aquatic animals. What is the dosing size? Do you need any? Like I said, I bought a LOT.

Metrodinazole is used with humans and animals. I even found a dosage for elefants! :O
