I just baought some Mazuri tortoise food for my 8 month old Hermann's. Am I supposed to feed it as is or moisten it? It seems dry and hard to me.

My adult sulcatas eat it dry..
but for a baby.. and small.. id moisten it.
it doesnt take long at all.. a few seconds really..
when i did soak mine. I put some in a glass, poured water over it, then poured the water out.
That quick. and it was soft.

I soak it in warm water for a few minutes first and then mush it up with some greens. You'll probably only need one or two pellets for such a little guy.

I don't have any hermanns, but I feed it to my three species twice a week.

I know bigger torts are capable of eating it dry. For little dudes, it'll be easier for them when its moist and mushy. I remember reading from this forum that torts who consume mazuri tend to drink water often?

I soak Mazuri in warm water for about a minute to soften it for all size tortoises, especially young ones. Large tortoises like Sulcata maybe able to swallow lots of it whole but the pellets are large for smaller species of tortoise like as Hermann's, Russians, Greeks and some others. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I also only feed Mazuri once a week, mixed in well with greens.
