Anyone ever place a bet?

The Herp Society I used to belong to used to have races every once in a while to raise funds for various educational/civic projects, with it understood that 15% of all winnings go into the affore-mentioned fund, until someone ratted us out to the law (apparently, this sort of thing is illegal! )

It is most likely illegal cause the government is not getting their cut.

If there was gambling involved, then that is probably the reason why it would be illegal.

Other than that, I'm not a fan. Doesn't look like it would be fun for the tortoise and I'm not a fan of using animals for our entertainment like that.

Yes, the betting seemed to be the main issue, but there seems to be an obscure law pertaining to turtle racing that applied, as well.

And, should the question arise, no tortoise/turtle was ever mistreated, as the "motivator" was placing the individual chelonian's favorite treat at the end of the "run lane".

Well, I certainly never copped to my winnings to the Infernal Revenue Service...the Government uses enough of my taxes for things I don't approve of as it is!
