Firstly: I want to know if getting a photo of a tortoise with its mouth open is a skill? I either dont get me camera in time, ot i dont take the photo in time? How do you all do it? Even my friend managed to do it with his tortoise tiny! See attatched photo below!

Secondly: Lets see your skilled photography of your toroise & turtles with their mouths open... SOOOO CUTE right?

I snapped about 100 pictures over the course his meal to get 2-3 of them...so it is possible but it either takes skill (which I don't have) or patience. I have also got yawning photos on two occasions (for those you need to be there as they are waking up and have an unobstructed shot).

These aren't skilled, but here you go!

I just love that second shot of Trevor! It needs a caption. Something about the monster coming out of hiding or some such.

That pic of Izzy is my favorite!

Really you all think that second pic of Trevor is that good? I should have entered that one then! Even my husband said the one I chose to enter (regal Trevor I call it) wasn't a winning photo, although nice. I'll let him pick next year since I want to win. hehe Thanks for the compliments. :)

I think it's priceless!! I've only seen Nelson yawn once.
I think Regal Trevor should have won the contest ;)

my torts are always yawning, so if i wait for a little bit, I can catch them mid yawn, and they hold it for a couple seconds. of course you have to have a camera nearby and turned on or else you will miss it!

I think a certain amount of luck, patience and being in the right place at the right time with camera in hand !!
I took these two photos the other day one after the other but they are 2 out of about 102 that I took !!!

It helps to have a tort who doesn't mind the limelight, lol. Zoom's camera shy, and will hide whenever she sees it--even in the middle of a meal!

I snuck up on her while she was eating for pics of her with her head out of her shell... This was the closest I got to an open mouth pic.

Got one. Took me about 50 tries. Luckily he never fills up.
