Hi, so I was told I needed to cover half my tortoise table to add humidity, and I finally got around to it. ImageUploadedByTortForum1374331564.002062.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1374331575.879625.jpg
I have a UVB light over the humid area but it's just for light. I know they need it hot so I was just wondering if anyone knows of a light that could mount to the wall so I don't have to cut the glass?

I know you said the UVB light is just for light, then not for UVB, correct? as UV will not go through glass. Also be very carful it doesn't get so hot a breaks the glass. Any regular incandescent light bulb will give off heat, try a 40 and 60 watt to see which one gives you the right temp. However, be sure the tort can not touch the bulbs.

It stays around 70 in the humid hide. I know the UVB can't go trough light and I plan on moving it as soon as I can get new light for the inside.

Also, the UVB doesn't get hot so I'm not really worried about that. I just don't think it isn't enough in the closer area. I do spay the substrate with hot water though.

Since you've said that your UVB light doesn't get hot, I'm worried that it might be a compact Fluorescent bulb (CFL). These are known to be harmful to young tortoises' eyes.

i hate to be the stern one but were you saying its 70 degrees in the humid hide? If its humid in there, your tort will be cold and damp, which leads to sickness. Get the temps to about 90 degrees on the warm side with a 100-105 hot spot (basking spot) And the cool side should be minimum 80 degrees. The humid hide I would keep it on the warmer side. Also as said before, UVB does not penetrate glass, if thats the only UVB light you are offering then you need to move it to an open area anywhere on the cage, and switch to as stated maybe a 40-60 watt regular bulb. I think glass might actually make it hotter below it when heat is on it (but not sure) so that should be enough. If your UVB is a coil bulb please switch it to a tube style one or get an MVB bulb, which combines heat and uvb. You could just use an MVB for your basking light. The tort will get uvb and heat. 100w will work perfect. I use powersun. I just don't want your tort to get sick on you and have any problems. These changes will improve the habitat, and I really appreciate you covering up part of it to trap humidity :) You are doing great

I missed that, the 70 degree part. It should be 80 all over day and night, with 80 % humidity and a 95+ basking. To refresh, Toms threads are below in my post. The sulcata thread applies.
