Wow, I'm so jealous. Sandy gets to go see my sister and talk about her animals. What fun! I think I need to plan a trip there...

Just got home and introduced him to his new indoor habitat then forced myself to leave him alone to settle. A big thank you to Yvonne for the tour and allowing me to adopt this sweetheart of a soul:) We've named him Crash (for Kevin Costner's Crash Davis in Bull Durham (sigh) and my love of baseball...at the risk of being kicked out of my own house...."Go Yankees") and cuz the little guy's photos that Yvonne first posted made me sigh, so there ya go:D. Now for the visit.....

Yvonne is one very attractive, very fit and gracious lady who led me around her awesome home and property, over fences, and under branches (in gusts of wind that sent shivers at times) to discover a fascinating world of large and small microenvironments for each type of tortoise and turtle she has in her care. I'm glad I worked out a bit this morning before leaving to keep up with Yvonne because she is in much better shape than I am:p.

I learned that pictures can only give you the vaguest idea of the sizes -from the tiniest DT or box hatchlings to the regal stature of the Aldabras and Dudley, the Sulcata. I was amazed with how stately Dudley is as he poked his head out to see who was invading his pen. He is so much larger than he appears in photos. The Aldabras are magnificent!! I could go on and on, but I'll just add that the DT's eyes are as beautiful as they seem in photos and I loved each one. The Manouria are fascinating and their rain forest is nothing short of genius. Oh...and the African sideneck is beautiful!

Yvonne is a gracious hostess and I wish I had planned more time to visit and that Maggie could have joined us....maybe next time. Thanks again Yvonne. Thanks to everyone here for your well wishes and congrats:)

Yes you do! Just watch your speed on this trip. One ticket a year is enough. :D

First congrats on the new one!! Secondly I agree with all your comments about Yvonne and her place. I know I have wonderful snapshots in my mind of her place, animals, and her (and I frequently bring them back out and relive the time there). Dudley is just...ummm... not sure what term or terms to use, awesome, magical, and inspiring all come to this feeble mind. Didn't you love all her unique cactus' too?

Thanks Jacqui. Dudley is all of those things...hard to find the right one, isn't it? I noticed a lot of unique plants growing, including some cactus but I think most of it is in the greenhouse where I didn't get a chance to more than glance at as we walked past...mainly because I was adjusting to the "magic" of just being there, from the moment you drive up it is wonderous. Guess this means I need to go again, huh?;)
