Hi friends, Ive got a juvenille russian which is about 3-4 years old and 3.25 inches, he was eating greatly when I received him in September, but this last 2 weeks he wont even touch the food and bury himself completely for days, what can I do? Temperature for basking is 36 C while the rest of the enclosure is mostly 27-29 C. I offer a variety of things, from simple grass to hibiscus flowers, I even bought some flowers from Zoo Med that have a strong aroma, but that didnt work either. I am getting desperate, although its getting dark by 4 PM here his enclosure has lights until past 7.

Interesting, Im not entirely sure if my tortoise ate enough this past months to last the entire process, do you think there is any dangers with that?
I might try to resist brumation with the tips yoi included, I do have a HO tube and a very potent CHE, I might even add a secondary heat source. I knew that these tortoises went through this process, but I assumed that if I kept the temperatures high enough and bright enough I could somehow avoid it, but its crazy how they know its winter even when they dont get a glimpse of the outside. Such amazing animals.

If they go down for brumation with food in the gut, it can kill them.
