I use a 75watt basking light on my musk turtle. I got it in the pet section at Walmart for $6. The one you have should work for a redfoot, but it does not say that it is specifically for basking purposes.

I dont have a redfoot but i like to use the spot lights for basking lights, i got mine which are only 35w since i have a closed chamber enclosure at home depot for $8 for 3 of them. But i like them because you get a direct spot of heat then radient heat coming off of that.

Spot lights aren't good for Redfoots or so I heard. I was told regular incandescent GE Reveal lights do the same as those high dollar basking lights. I've bought them and was told not to use them. But when I went to petsmart to get my CHE all they had was 60W and 150W and I was afraid 150W would be too much heat. So I got 60W but with that and my 60W incandescent daylight bulb it was still like a degree or so below what it needed to be so I thought this 75W reveal light would work but it looks like it may be too bright. I can't go higher than 76W for the dome lamp I have. So I just need to know if it's to bright I'll have to try something else

If yourprimary concern is simply to simulate day light then that should be fine...BUT...I would get some silk artificial plants (or real which ever you prefer :D) and really make the other end a nice jungle like corner With thick heavy shade in the event your tortoise wants to hide in the dark...then would watch the behavior for the next week or so to see if your tortoise likes it....

I usually run red heat lamps for constant warmth for the two RFs here...but I moved some furniture around recently so the overhead bright room light that use to shine into their enclosures no longer does...so I went out and got the three pack 65watt flood bulbs and put one in each (and the turtles too) and the rufian appears to totally dig it...the shyer one I am still not sure on...she seems to be the one that is more reluctant to change...so I am doing the watching her now....:D

I have a fake plant in here for now :) there is an all organic nursery local too me that I'm going to visit for some live ones. I'm also working on a larger enclosure as well.

Are you looking for Heat or UVB?

Just heat. She gets outside time at least 30 minutes a day so far weather permitting

I just use a regular lightbulb for mine. It looks like you need to lower your "heaters". Mine is only about 10" above my RT's and it stays around 95 degrees.

You talking about my CHE? Yes I've been thinking about that. I wonder if there is a way to mount it inside my plastic lid without worrying about it melting it? But if I do that problem is my enclosure is only 12" high to begin with so it would need to be taller right?

If you could mount them so they point straight down and even with the top edge of your enclosure, I think that they would work fine. My enclosure is only about 9" at the basking spot.

Well I have the actual light mounted straight down on a lamp stand but the CHE is clipped on the side. I couldn't see spending $60 for two lamp stands when only the light needs to point down. Maybe I could cut a spot out for the CHE in the center of the lid and put a square of plywood around it to protect the plastic? I only have the enclosure halfway covered for now to allow easy access for spraying to create humidity, and allow the light to shine in and heat. But if I cover it completly and cut a square out for the light then I could put the CHE In the center right?
