That's a puncture vine (Tribulus terrestris). It is part of the leopard and sulcata regular diet in Africa. Beware of the sharp stickers.

I have stepped on these in FL, TX, AR, and possibly other states. Stepped on one in FL when i was 20, and then had plantar warts in that spot for years.
