My horsefield Trevor has started to become a lot lazier the past week, he's not coming out till later on in the day and isn't staying out for long, just comes out for food and a bit of heat then back to his bed?? Is it because of the time of year? Is this normal??

Depending on what time of the year it is where you are it might be hibernating season so he/she is slowing his/her body down. You can offer bright red veggies. That always gets them exited! I remember when Arty, my tort, was very lazy. I gave him some red pepper and he was fine. Not saying that if you tort is sick that pepper will cure them. But it might get him to move a bit more. :D

The days are getting shorter.

Where are you? What are your temps like?

Where Russian tortoises come from, the time they have to eat and stock up before it gets too cold to live outside the burrow is very short. If your tortoise was wild caught and a fairly new import, his biological clock may be telling him to start winding down.
