Hi have a Russian tortoise I have had him for about 10 years, he's probally 12-15 years old
He has a unique name Tort..

I am building a new indorenclosure and have been lurking here looking for ideas

Especially with heat lamp. I don't like the hang in domes..
I have also been looking into changing substrate from coconut fiber to ???

Some members use a RHP(radiant heat panel) I believe that's what it is called. I use coco coir with cypress mulch on top. The mulch helps keep the mess down.
And welcome to the forum a pic of Tort would be great.

I don't have a Russian so not sure what heating and lighting you should have. Try different keywords in the search here. Like Russian enclosures or enclosures. Also check out the subject of enclosures here on TFO

Thank you I have just the domes and I don't care for them. I'll changing to a tube style uvb and not sure if I want some or spring clip for the basking bulb and ceramic heat emitter

Yes the UVB lights that go in the dome type fixture are usually the wrong type that damages their eyes.The flouresnt tube type are good. Reptisun and Arcadia make them. Try to stay away from the clamp type because a little nudge can make them fall and if it is a heating element like a CHE or even a light. It might become a fire hazard or worse burn your tort.

If I get a 24" dual strip bulb and do one uvb and one led bulb is the led over kill?
