Gopherus agassizii (desert tortoise) - protected by law, and illegal to buy or sell. Ok to keep with a permit, which is easy to come by. Just contact any chapter of the California Turtle and Tortoise Club

Out of curiosity, where did you get a desert tortoise without know it was a desert tortoise?

A family I work for had it but couldn’t take care of it so they left it with me!
