They both look like gulf coast box turtles to me (Terrapene carolina major). Hard to tell from those pictures, but I'm guessing the top turtle is male and the bottom one is female.

I think they are three toeds. I have a couple big ones like that too. I would guess male and female too.

Totally 3 Toed females. That first gal is huge and I like her distinctive shell pock marks.

Awesome! Now I have an even sex ratio, though I'm scratching my head over how I've gone from zero to ten box turtles in the last year.

This also makes three stray three-toes in the last couple of weeks, I guess Santa Barbara has a box turtle problem?
