Just found this little guy crossing the road,headed toward my pond. Sorry about the quality (or lack thereof) of the pics. Anybody know what this is?

He looks like an Eastern mud turtle, Kinosternon subrubrum subrubrum, to me. :)

Either way it is freaking adorable and I would have SUCH a hard time putting such a tiny defenseless baby back in the wild... LOL!! I'm terrible. I'd do it though.

Do you have like a big pond on your property, or is it like an ornamental pond?

Mud turtles are my favorite turtle, even more than Boxies... My little "Stinky" is soooo much fun. There are a couple of people on Kingsnake selling CB babies, they are seldom more than $25 each for the more common varieties. And very well worth it. A lot of personality stuffed into a teeny shell.

Thanks everbody. Yes I have a pretty good size pond. I'll release him in the marshy end.
