How to properly check the temp of basking spot:)

Checking the basking spot while he enjoys his late night snack btw, haven't named him yet so open to suggestions

I like the picture where he has his food and it looking directly at you. Was perhaps the first picture?

I use this laser temperature reader(one on the left) to read the spot right under the basking light.

I would place a rock the size of the tort under the light . Then let it sit for an hour or so . Then check the temperature of the rock with a temperature gun .
