Remember when you were 10 yrs old and it was a hot day in the middle of summer and you were camping and having a great time with your family and then the best of all, your Dad brought out the watermelon and cut out big chunks and gave it to you while you were standing in the creek and he cut out the heart and let you have it? And the cold mountain snow run off water splashing at your knees and that melon was just as sweet and cold as could be and you had watermelon juice dripping all down the front of you? Then you and your brother started spitting seeds at each other? Well, I was 40 something and it was me and my son, but the fun was just the same...and so was this experience with Bob, he totally loves watermelon and he does not leave a bit. I buy the seedless kind for him and I cut out the heart for me and it wasn't a creek but my garden hose, and the water was just as cold and the melon was just as sweet...

great pics maggie, i too gave galileo watermelon this week, i threw it all over the yard, he raced around like crazy looking for the red against the green. the look of total satisfaction after he was done, legs stretched out to bask and eyes closed. too precious, wish i could give it to him everyday, but he poops enough as it is, must be 8 torpedos a day just on the graze, the day after watermelon or nopales its 12, almost as many snails i collect every morning. in fact ive made an appt for him for monday morning for his yearly checkup. my biggest problem is finding a box big enough to put him in. no luck so far, so im going to line the passenger side floor upfront w/ plastic and put down a towel hoping he stays on his side of the car. haha spring

Hey Spring, be sure to let us know what the Vet says about Gali, I know you have worked very hard to give him the best life possible...and he has repaid you by every time you look out at him and see how happy he is.
I think you need to get a water turtle or a box turtle to eats those snails. I used to get a s---load of snails and slugs when I first moved here, but after collecting them everyday and feeding my box turtles and aquatics...I ran out...no more slugs, no more snails...

Spring~ If you dont mind me asing (again lol) why are you picking up the snails?

the garden snails eat bird poop that have a parasite they then carry and if gali gets a snail, he gets the parasite and they are supposed to be very hard to get rid of. wanna avoid that, if i can. now its making me crazy because i cant think of its name.. you could say im borderlined obsessed about it :(

We have been talking about watermelon feeding on another tortoise group, but not just because our animals love them, but because they are suppose to work sorta like Viagra.

Oh Maggie, Bob is such a little ham. I bet he just looks at you with those little eyes of his and you come running don't you? I know that I would. I think Bob is a little bit spoiled by you and what a wonderful thing to see. I know all of us on here love to see you spoil Bob because then we get to see pictures of it and I know for myself how that makes me laugh everytime I see that face of his. He looks so content in the last picture that you posted, but I have a feeling if there was a strawberry in front of him he would have ate it too. :p

Spring-What about a large Rubbermaid type plastic container? That's always handy to have for the tort or other things around the house. I have a mental image of Galileo with his head sticking out the window! Someone here posted a picture of a desert tort doing that once. It was so cute.

OMG!!! some times It's not a good thing to have the internet full of info at the tip of our fingers.. Okay so googled flukes, turtles, sheep (because sheep kept coming up on the searches) snails.. and then on the last search HUMANS came up.. and watercress ... So does these flukes not a problem for water turtles?

http://animals.jrank.org/pages/1518...-NAME-Fasciola-hepatica-SPECIES-ACCOUNTS.html

Passing plant-eating animals become infected when they eat the plants, often grass. Humans typically become infected by drinking water containing flukes or by eating greens such as watercress.

Their life cycle is amazing, sheep, snails then birds and back to sheep or goats.. Either way I don't want any part of it.. Ewwwww Spring Keep picking those snails..

:(
