I just wanted to let everyone know that Larry survived in his outdoor burrow just fine. He was dusty and sleepy when he came out, but some nice soaks in warm water and lots of sunshine got him going. He's back to his normal self now. He comes out in the morning and stares at the window til someone notices and goes out to talk to him and feed him.

Was there anything you needed to do in the time period between November and March? Did he stay in the burrow the entire time?

I'm in SoCal as well and want to plan out what to do when fall/winter comes.

Was there any "limbo" state Tom was talking about?

No. He crawled in his burrow and I didn't see him again. If he would have been partly awake or hungry at any point, he would have come out. So I'm going to say he was cool enough. He survived the winter just fine, so it doesn't appear that he burned up fat too fast. The main thing is making sure the burrow can't flood. He dug himself in pretty good and stayed perfectly dry. He's been staying buried during this hot weather too.
