What a sweetie! Yes, he or she needs to be older/bigger. The breeder was giving a guess mostly based on the temperatures he incubated the eggs.

I've always said I was not going to diversify anymore and that I'm happy with the types of tortoise that I now have. But if the opportunity ever arises for me to get a chaco or two, I'll jump on it.

Thank you all for your comments! They are making Chico feel very special and loved!
Before I decided to get her (I'll assume Chico is a baby girl for now), I had read many of the very interesting Chaco discussions here on this forum..! It definitely played a role in my decision to get a Chaco over a star.

Hopefully very soon I will have more pictures of her to show!
