I am new to tortoise ownership. 5 years ago I found a leopard tortoise in the woods in NJ. I gave her to a friend and her kids took very good care of her. As they are off to college now I was offered ownership. We are doing well together and I was trying to determine her age. She was about the size of a box turtle when I found her. Any ideas? Thanks for any help, Cindy
Her name is Shelly

Hello, Cindy and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you and Shelly.
Tortoises grow at different rates depending on genetics, environment, diet etc., so there is no way of knowing the age of a tortoise unless you have the hatch date.
A photo may allow folks here to make a guesstimate, but it would be no more than that.

Welcome to the Forum!

Not that I'm a doubting Thomas, but I'd really like to see a picture of the tortoise you found. We can make a guess at the animals' age, but without the hatch date, that's all it would be - a guess.
