Hi everyone!!

We are Carl and Dannii and we live in Tenerife, spain.

We've recently bought 2 tortoises, named Digi and Spadget :)

We're not 100% sure what species they are so have attached some photo's in case someone can help.

Lovely to be here!

Thanks for your replies. We arent sure that they are leopards as one is 8 years old and would have thought he would be bigger than that. But you're the experts lol :)

Welcome to the forum Carl and Dannii :)

I agree :) You do have 2 Leopard tortoises, Stigmochelys pardalis babcocki. They look to be 2 males also.

You think they're 2 males :/ we got told they were male and female so i hope not. Is there any way of telling properly? Thanks

Danny is our resident expert on both species and sexing. If he says it is a certain species, it is. If he says it is a certain sex, it is 99.9% likely that is what it is.

Unfortunately the people you purchased from were not straight forward with you, that happens all too often.

Welcome to the forum!

Two VERY nice looking leopards with exceptionally smooth shells. I think the second one could be a female, but it's really a little early to tell. I think that they're closer to 4 years than 8 though.

Hi Carl and Dannii:

Welcome to the forum!!

Danny is very good at sexing tortoises, so you can probably rest assured that they are both male, however, before I read Danny's post, I was going to say that the bigger one was female. Doesn't help, huh! Sorry!

Hello and welcome. What a find! Those are fantastic looking leopard tortoises. Keep them good and warm and they should grow nicely for you.

It is hard to sex young torts, but I think that second one (on the pink shorts) MIGHT be female. Time will tell. I din't think this until after I saw the second set of pics. I wonder if Danny saw the second set yet. He is usually right.

8 sounds a bit old to me too, but sometimes they just grow very slowly.

Anyway, hope to see more pics of them and hope you have fun here.

Thanks everyone!! I hope they are male and female. If they do turn out to both be males then will they need to be seperated later on or will they get on ok together?

Fingers crossed :)
