Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in a while- my tortoise has been doing really well! I got Ella back in July and she's over doubled in size since then. She's very active, eats everything, etc.

I do have to work to keep humidity up in dry SoCal, though.. I cover her pen in plastic/foil, but I think I overdo it sometimes when it comes to watering her substrate. I'm concerned she might have some fungus on her plastron... I included a wet and dry photo for reference. Didn't come off with a toothbrush... would love some input, thanks y'all!

I see nothing of any concern. Probably what you are seeing is staining from the substrate.

You can see it better than we can with a picture. Your little guy doesn't need the damp substrate like other species do. Cut back on the humidity and if the spots really worry you, use the athlete foot cream for a week or so.

I did recently change substrate, so staining would make sense.

Will keep an eye on it and go for the athlete foot cream if it seems like it's changing. Appreciate the responses, thank you!

The Athletes foot cream is great. Because not only will it quickly kill shell fungus, it also does no harm if the issue is not fungal.
