Help ID. Possible Snapper?

A neighbor found out I had turtles and asked me to identify his longtime pet. I expected to find a Red Eared Slider of course, but was shown what appears to be a small Snapper of some sort? Carapace is about 6 inches long, and turtle is purported to be about 40 years old. Sorry pictures are not the best...

They're called barbles. I believe they help them feel around in dark water.
