I adopted little Gimli last week from a local shelter. I love him already! He was a stray so we don't have any background. I am told he is a Greek tortoise and probably older. I am a first time tortoise mom and very concerned that I do everything correctly for him so I'm glad to be here.

Can anyone help me identify his subspecies? 20180717_185228.jpeg20180715_182042.jpeg

Certainly a Testudo graeca terrestris aka “golden Greek” but correct name is Mesopotamian Tortoise.
@HermanniChris is there any way to guess at the region he came from? I was looking at the photos on your website but I really can't tell. I would love to know just so I can provide him the best care and most natural diet possible.

It is difficult not knowing his age or previous diet. He seems to be healthy and I would like to keep it that way.
