Hello All. I’ve recently gotten a red foot baby from a local reptile show. I’ve since built this home for him. It’s about 3’x 5’ x 10” high. It’s all plywood frame with vinyl stick tiles on all floor and walls. Then plexi glass for most the lid except the middle where I place his lights. Current I’ve got a ceramic heat emitter and UVB light on top and a big 24x48 heat mat under all the substrate. The floor is reading about 80 degrees with under the heat light about 94. Humidity is currently at 80. I have a fogger going into the enclosure but it was getting way too humid. So I turned that off and it’s settled around 80. I may turn it on at nights but no more than that. So far my little guy is very sleepy and does not move much. He also does not eat when I put food in his house. I soak him daily and then have to put food in his face for him to eat. He doesn’t eat very much then either. I’m hoping this new enclosure will have the correct settings that will get him comfy and ready to eat. I’m very open to feedback and suggestions!

Looks nice. But remove the heat mat. Babies can burn themselves cuz they dig down and don't know to move off it. Sounds like you have it under all the substrate so he really can't move off it. Che's for heat, more then one if needed on a thermostat.

I agree.
I've attempted to use "heat from below" devices many years (decades) ago. It never worked well.
You want your heat to come from above. And with Redfoot, we're not talking about much heat. Just 80-86 degrees.
If you can get it to 82 degrees 24/7 you're there!

I e really struggled to keep the temp where it needs as well as keep the humidity. More plexi glass on top has kept the humidity but I can’t put the heat lamp on that. I had two heat lamps but still was in the low 70’s. The mat has helped the most. I understand the risk of him digging into it but he has not dug at all in the 2 months I’ve had him. How about him not eating much especially on his own? Should I continue to hand feed him during his soaks or just keep putting food in his enclosure and hope he eats it?

Do you have the heat mat running through a thermostat or rheostat?
