I wanted to show off my tank all my baby's are "rescues" that is they were either dumped at my house because I hate to see anything hurt or given to me by someone that just didn't know what they were getting into when they got the critter. This is still a work in progress and I would love suggestions. But please be kind. Hello and Welcome. Wow, great looking turtle tank and love the way you did the top half. All I can say, is you may need to get to building another one. Those turtles are looking mighty big and may be getting crowded soon.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

Wow! That's a great set-up. If you take them out and feed them in a separate tub and leave them there for an hour or so, it keeps the tank clean longer.

I love your setup! I have to tell you a funny-ish story! Years ago when I had sliders I bought a pleko about the size of your thumb. He was he same size as the turtles.

They lived together in harmony for 4 yrs! Grew to be about 6", both the turtles and pleko.

Then one day I came home to find the pleko in pieces! I couldn't believe they ate their friend, LOL. They were well fed, so it's a mystery!

Looks really nice, love to see people saving neglected pets! As commented above the tank will get small for grown Red Eared Sliders.

When you look for new tanks give craigslist a try sometimes you find a great tank for cheap! The other option is buying a stock tank. They aren't attractive but they can house several turtles. If you don't already I recommend getting a canister filter that filters more gph than the tank you have. Good luck!

How many turtles do you have there? Thy are very nice looking.

Also... HOW do you keep your water so clear?? How often do you clean it? Ammonia levels? 'Cause is looks AMAZING.
Great job.

We have a oas 3000 pond filter with a UV light that filters the 200 gallons of water. We do a compleat removal of everything and scrub it down about every 6 months. We do a water change about every week to two weeks depending on how dirty it looks. There are currently 8 turtles in there. 4 red eared sliders two painted one yellow belly slider and one we are not too sure on. He was dropped off when he was tiny and we were told he was a snapper by a total moron that must had never seen a snapper before because he is far from it but the kid was all messed up on drugs so who knows. The two big RES are over 30 years old and the two smaller ones I was told by the kid that didn't want them anymore are 15. I have no idea on the yellow slider or the painted. One of the painted was hit by a car and was stuck to a road when he was picked up.

Oh and the Pleco is about the size of my hand. He was never bothered by the turtles till about two weeks ago and all of a sudden they have taken a liking to snipping at him from time to time. I also have a large number of zebra muscles in the tank that help keep the water clean.

It took hubby two years to get around to this one lol. But I'll get him moving on another. They don't really try to eat the sucker fish I think they just like to snap at him once in awhile but I think it's just like a game not really interested In eating him.

Ok thanks. The kid just left him here. He was all over the place with his story of were he got it from. So I really had no idea were to start looking. When he came it was the size of a quarter now it's the size of my hand. Really sweet and smart. Kid said he was gonna eat him. I told him no. Kid took off two years ago and came looking for "his" turtle like two weeks ago. Told him sorry his bonded with the others.

He still looks great. My pleco grows any bites in fins out quite quickly, so I'm sure he'll be okay.
