Heat rises. What is your plan to get the heat from the the upper areas down to the floor where it is needed?

That's not really a problem in a well insulated shed, Tom. My shed is around 10x10x8 and at floor level is right around 80F all the time, even on the coldest nights. Looks like they're putting in a 2x4 framework to hold the insulation.

What is the temperature at the top of your shed when the floor temp is 80?

I am also insulating the top and there will be an additional air space in the top. The floor will be insulated too. I plan on running a small fan to circulat the heat around. I still have to put a few more 2 x 4s on the ceiling and floor. Back to the hardware store. So far the only thing I have had to buy was the screws and 12 2x4s. Insulation is next. I also figured a way to do radiantheated floor! Will exsplan that when the time comes. And yes, I silicone all the seams!

Wow. Looks very professional!

You may not need a fan. Dudley's 10x10x5 or 6' shed keeps an overall temperature just from the heat from the pig blanket and the 250 watt brooder bulb that hangs down from the ceiling at about 4'. I have a 3/4" rubber horse stall mat on the floor.

We are starting to put the electrical in now. Still have a few more boards to add, then insulation. Have to work on it when I can. Because lugging a 53 lb tort up and down stairs is a big pain!
You'll get there!
Meanwhile be careful with your back!!

I am using rolled insulation like you use in a house. I figure it is the best for holding in heat.
The problem with that is if it ever gets wet it loses it's insulating value. Especially on the floor I would use a ridged insulation like urethane or Styrofoam.with a vapor barrier of either foil or poly.

I am using sheet insulation for the floor. I figured the rolled was only for the walls and ceiling. And I will be using a vapor barrier. Thanks

Hi Cheryl, I've given someone a link to your thread to show them how you've insulated your shed - any updates on how it looks now?

It will be interesting to see in mid-January, or February when the Northeast is socked in with sub-Arctic polar vortexes, feet of snow and sub-zero temps.

Youngstown Ohio is a lot different than @Yvonne G ’s Clovis, California in Winter.

Good luck!
