I prefer to use heating equipment that does not emit light inside their boxes. It makes it kind of simulate the darkness of a burrow. I don't like any kind of bulb for this application because I have seen many large tortoises with heat damaged carapaces because of CHEs or colored night bulbs.

I prefer to use Kane heat mats and overhead radiant heat panels, or oil filled radiant heat panels.

This is just for a basking during the day and it is hanging 12 in from the top of his shell. I ordered him the oil filled heater for night time, plus his box is inside the house. The temp has not dropped below 71 at night so far.

If that bulb is a flood bulb, it should work fine for your purposes. But use a temp gun and check the temperature at the height of your tortoises shell. Use a rock that is the size of your tortoise and let it bake right under bulb for a couple hours. Then use the temp gun to check the temp on the top of the rock. Adjust the bulb height as needed.

Great thank you. I check his shell with the temp gun and it is at 82.
