Growth?

My turtles are about 1-1.5 inches. Yesterday I started to notice that the lines on the shell seem thicker on the bigger one. (Does that make sense?) Is this because he's growing or am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like new growth to me. :) Can you post a picture?, so we can be sure.

Well he has a few split scutes, but looks healthy, that is just new growth you are seeing.

I believe many things can cause split scutes, but the main reason that comes to mind is high incubation temperatures. I think it can also be genetics. It does not mean your turtle is not healthy, many turtles/tortoises with split scutes live perfectly without it affecting them in any way.
