Hi all,

I’ve been really hoping that my youngest star is a female and it had all been looking good until today when I saw this poking out of her cloaca!!

She’s about two years old and 350g so still quite young/small but my older star was smaller than this when he started to flash.

I’ve been holding out hope that she is, in fact, a she as her tail seems fairly short and there’s no sign of any concaving of the plastron which I was seeing in my male by this size. But I might just be kidding myself.

So, having no experience of juvenile female torts, I’m throwing it out for your expert opinions. Is there any chance that this is some kind of female body part emerging or is it, as I suspect, the beginning of ‘her’ flashing ‘her’ penis?

More pictures below.

Thanks!

It's a boy. Tail looks nothing like that of a female even though the plastron is still flat. Concavity will begin to form in the next couple of years.

Nice looking tortoise.
