I was snapping pics of Tuck today and he decided to stand tall to reach for some mulberry leaves. Made for a nice picture:

Thank you. He is the first tortoise I ever hatched myself from parents that I raised from hatchings. He was also my first tortoise that got "the wet routine" from day one.Your tortoise is STUNNING!! ?
He's your grandtortie!Thank you. He is the first tortoise I ever hatched myself from parents that I raised from hatchings. He was also my first tortoise that got "the wet routine" from day one.
I haven't had him on a scale lately, but I'd estimate him at 80-85 pounds, and growing...How much does Tuck weigh?
He looks like he's about to decapitate himself on his own gular!
I hatched him in May of 2010.What a wonderful tort!! How old is he?
Amazing turtle!!! ? nothing pyramid !!! ?Thank you. He is the first tortoise I ever hatched myself from parents that I raised from hatchings. He was also my first tortoise that got "the wet routine" from day one.
I thought all gular scutes were split unless they were worn down or damaged in some way.@Tom @Dizisdalife beautiful specimens. I noticed on Tom's tort the gular is straight or " unsplit" while Diz's tort is forked or "split". How does that happen? Is it genetic or a result of something the breeder does or doesn't do or is just completely random?
It is very rich. I'm expecting it to weather and fade over time. He is a handsome boy.Beautiful shell coloring for a larger sulcata.
As far as I've seen, this is random. As is the size of the gulars. I had two siblings that were raised side by side in the same conditions with the same diet, slept in the same night house, etc... One had well developed gulars like Tuck, and the other had very little gular development, almost like a female.@Tom @Dizisdalife beautiful specimens.
