found an egg

hey newbie here,we have a red eared i have had for12 years in 50 gallon,but my daughter found a egg about 4 weeks ago brought it home for a learning leason for her 7 and 4 year old,well they now have a baby eastern mud turtle ,this site has helped me to figure what to do,he was worried cause has not eat in a week and its exactly a week and 2 days now,im heading to fish store to get supplies and set up a tank.wish me luck for grammy has to watch her grands baby.......i have strict instuctions to not let it get hurt,i just need to know a temp they need?and how big they get?thank you all so much.

I'm so sorry that your post got buried among older threads and I hope we're not too late to give you the help you asked for. (It's always a good idea when asking your own questions, to start your own thread). So, let's see...

As to the temperature, he will need a place to be able to climb out of the water and sit under the light to warm up. If your house is very cold, you can add an aquarium heater to the water and keep it at about 75-78F degrees.

Your little mud turtle won't get as big as your RES..maybe about 6" in a straight line front to back, maybe not that big.

I'd love to see some pictures of your new baby. And what a lucky find on the egg!
