I recently got a Russian Tortoise and I have been feeding him a kale and watermelon mixture everyday. I read that they like a variation in their meals and I am wondering what else would be a good meal for him.
Thanks in advance.

Do some reading on Russian tort care . Fruit isn't good for them .I might give them strawberry tops once a month or two . And a mixed diet is like spring mix ! But fruit every day and tomatoes are fruit ! ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1474072616.606211.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1474072636.325684.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1474072656.946169.jpg

Broad leafed green weeds should be the main part of his diet.
Have a look at http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/russian-tortoise-care-sheet.80698/
for lots of good dietary and other information.
Also, you can use http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/site/tortoise_home_1.asp
to see what other plant are safe for your tortoise.
Watermelon is too high in sugars and is not good for Russians.
Kale is okay in moderation as part of a mixed diet but is too high in oxalic acid to be a main part of his daily meals

Mix up a variety of greens , for instance today my Sulcata is having a mixture of collard greens , kale , mulberry leaves , mustard greens and radischio some zucchini with a big pile of grass on top ! You will find out what he likes best , and give him enough variety that he wont get fussy about eating one thing ! No fruits for him either , they are hard to digest !
