I want to create an outdoor planting area for my future torts where they can go munch. I want to mix some food grade diatomaceous earth in with some topsoil to help with bugs and other critters but was wondering if the food grade diatomaceous earth was okay for tortoises should they decide to do some burrowing?

It is suppose to be okay for them, but for the most part those bugs would be beneficial to have around. Depending on the tortoise you have, some can even be a food source. I would rather just use it when and if any "bad" bugs show up and those normally are going to be on the leaves of the plant rather then in the dirt.

Thanks. I'm looking up seeds to buy now on Carolina Pet Supply.

It is used as pest control, so it should be safe, but I would also wait until the bugs show up.
