UGH! Hubby and I were out and a Flash Flood hit for the past hour or so. The tortoises are in their burrows, I covered the burrows with trash can lids, to keep any more rain we might get tonight out. Hatchling boxies had their heads above water in their habitat. I soaked up a bunch of the water and covered the habitat, they'll probably enjoy the very wet substrate tonight. I'll change out the substrate tomorrow (need to go buy more). Streets are flooded with rocks and mud, it was a doozy of a storm.

Oh my goodness. Stay safe. Be careful when you go out. I read about Ivo hitting Cabo San Lucas. Wonder if this is part of that. Wow.

That's just crazy. I can't even conceive of rain in the middle of summer like this. The only rain we get here comes in winter.

I am sorry to hear that...living in the desert has this hazard during the summer....I was on watch as well, I have the two CDTs that have burrows as well as above ground hides ...the one is an old guy and does not see well nor does he pay attention much---so my son was on stand by in the event of a flash here...thankfully none, so far anyways...

I think that would be a bit scary. I know where I live we don't get true flash floods, but do get foods. I am amazed at how quicly water can move in those cases. Glad everybody (tortoises and hmans) are okay.

That would be scary. Glad you were able to get everyone shelled and not shelled safe. Be careful when you do go out. Sink holes can suck you in with out any signs of one being there.

This storm came out of no where, it was a beautiful sunny day all day. I saw the watches and warnings and checked radar frequently yesterday, there was nothing near us and we don't get hit with the monsoons they say we will. Yes, this is the remnants of Tropical Storm Ivo and she packed a wallop on us last night. It was a total down pour and serious winds for about a little over an hour. Still more watches out today.

Tortoises were out of their burrows this morning, with a what the heck look on their face. LOL, it's so wet and incredibly humid just not desert like at all with 75% humidity and 84 Degs at 8:20am. I don't think they appreciated their burrow covers either. Hopefully, that was the worst of the storm for at least the weekend so things can dry out, but we've got another flash flood watch very close by for today, so we'll see.

Our 4 year old Grandson called in tears during the storm, their power was out and his TV didn't work and he wanted Grandpa to fix it. Poor baby. He said Grandpa could fix it in his garage, because that's where Grandpa fixes everything, still sobbing. About 30 minutes later their power came back and he called to say Thank You to Grandpa for fixing. ROFL I sure hope whenever their power goes out it comes back on quickly, otherwise he may be really mad at Grandpa. LOL

On the news last night, same thing happen in the county next to us, Riverside County. Outta nowhere. Sunny all day and then hail in the evening. Odd.
How cute your little grandbaby. Yay for Grandpa and Mother Nature fixing that TV so fast. LOL. Too funny. Too cute.
