What's everyones thoughts on extra scutes on tortoise

i love tortoises with extra scutes it makes the tortoise unique!

I think it breaks up the monotony of a predictable pattern. And it definitely makes that tortoise unique. it doesn't seem to affect their health at all, purely cosmetic.

I think they are beautiful after I get more comfortable and my baby grows up I would love to find one of my own

Its a birth defect, typically caused by incubation temps that were too high, but sometimes they just happen even with out high temp spikes.

I prefer "normal" looking tortoises, but that is just personal preference. In most cases there is nothing wrong with a split scuted baby, but in some cases high incubation temps can cause other unseen internal problems too.

Just be sure to quarantine and house them separately. Tortoises should not be housed in pairs.

Yeah that's my plan I will get it much later only after I get my little guy grown a bit I want to make sure I know how to care for him better

I like extra scutes. I don't understand why many breeders mark down extra scute babies... they are just as pretty
There was a thread discussing this, about how higher temps can cause the look, and and how many extra scute babies will probably end up being female because of the possibly higher temps.

I gave baby roomba to my vet. We are going to breed them as they get older and he gets more. I have 2 fertile eggs. Will hAtch in a l o n g time. Lol.

I think extra scutes are also unique and cool looking, but I like the regular pattern scutes myself. If I had a choice to pick, I would most likely choose the normal scutes versus extra scutes
