I had a close call with a clip on dome heat light that my iguana tipped over so I completely over hauled my tort enclousre, installed light sockets and mounted the lights. I didn't realise how easy it actually was to install a light socket! I need more plants though, she's killed off a rubber tree, an aloe, a jade, a violet and a rose. Think I figured it out though, if I slightly suspend them she can't bulldose them over, they just swing back and forth. She can still hide around the longer ones and I still get the pretty look and humidity.

Very cool...and I am surprised that the light fixtures are still sold with those silly clamps.....

Most of them aren't anymore. I noticed over the last year or so the clamps stopped being included in most lamps.

Here in Ontario so far as I know the ones in pet stores and hardware stores they all still have the clamp part but I haven't had to buy new lights in forever. After so many years of keeping so many different things I have tons of extras. Even when you google tort enclosures most pics you see have the same horrible clamp lights. I had NEVER had a problem with them out of coutless different enclsoures and reptiles but in hindsight they are terrible and the clamps have been removed off of every single one I own :)

I've heard that hanging a strip light on the side of enclosure can be bad for the tort's eyes. Better to hang overhead. I'm not positive, having never experienced this myself-- perhaps someone who has will chim in.

Looks great.
