Hello! I was hoping to get some advice on my tortoise enclosure. After reading Tom’s thread on caring for a baby Sulcata I realized that my enclosure isn’t the best. I currently have my Sulcata in a tank and want to switch to a big plastic bin. This seemed like a good idea at the time because the tank is so tall it’s hard for me to care for my tortoise but I don’t know how I can keep the humidity in. If there’s any advice on what I can do or if I should try something else, please let me know. I’m just trying to provide the best for my baby. I also plan on having the bin by the window to get some sun.

Hi!

This is a post I did a couple weeks ago. I think you'll find it helpful.

Also, putting a bin by the window may not be a good idea. The sun coming in could potentially make the enclosure very hot. Torts, especially babies, can overheat very quickly, and can die in minutes. Plus, UVB does not pass through glass or plexiglass, and loses 50% of its UV index just passing through
screening.

Copied post:
There are many ways to go on the closed chamber, some better than others, and different costs.

In no particular order, I'll try to list them all.

1) One of @Markw84 's custom built enclosures. Very easy to set up, is "smart", has all fixtures pre-installed. And looks great, too. Contact him for details. This is an old post so you see what they look like.

2) Build your own:

3) Use a grow tent. Here's pics of a member's tents. They work well and are inexpensive. Look for "grow tent" on Amazon.

4) Use a grow tent that you put over your enclosure...least efficient method!

I have everything I need, and most of what I want...truly blessed!
