Hi all,

I am new to this turtle thing. My eastern neck turtle who is around 30cm wide hates being in water at all. The water temp and the level is all good.
He really loves being out and about roaming around my house. Is there anything I should be doing or is this ok? I put him in three times a week to feed as he is an older turtle.
Any advise please?

You've thought him there is more space then his enclosure . You have to show him there isn't more space . Your the parent of the tort !

You have an eastern long-necked turtle? He should not be roaming around your house. That shouldn't even be an option. These are very large turtles that need large slow moving bodies of water. Show us how you are housing it and perhaps we can help. He shouldn't just be going in his tank to eat a few times a week. You need a safe, outdoor pond for a mature long neck, climate allowing.

According to this care sheet, the eastern long neck turtle spends quite a bit of time on land. He should be set up outside with a large pond and plenty of space on land for wandering. It looks like it is one water turtle that can eat on land and doesn't need to eat in the water. But roaming around the house on the floor is really not a good idea.

30 cm wide? This is a Chelodina longicollis, an Eastern Snakeneck? Or do you mean long? Can you post some pictures please?

If you could provide some more details on the housing (temperature, depth and size of the tank) that would be helpful. Just saying 'all good' doesn't necessarily mean it is correct. It does need to be in the water more, especially if it is an older turtle as you mentioned- you don't want him to develop problems from being dehydrated.
