Do your guys torts sleep completely sucked into their shell? Like not seeing legs or head? Not worried just wondering!

I think this can also be more of a species thing, too. I notice very seldom are one of the Hingebacks not sleeping fully tucked in. Where with other species like the Russians, I see them both ways. The tortoises not tucked in, also seem to be more the ones sleeping in the daytime.

Yes my boris is 50/50 I will be practically falling out of his shell sleeping, now today he was under the lamp tucked in! I think he just wanted to make his own sauna :)

Punli sleeps with one back leg kicked all the way out, like he forgot it out there. His head, front legs and other back leg are usually retracted, but one back leg is always stuck way out. It's cute.

:tort: Ours sleep all sprawled out!

:tort: I think ours feel very comfortable and show no safety concerns when they sleep.

Emrys sleeps like this a lot, or in the same position as the aldabra above, when he's under his basking light:

But inside his hide he tucks right in.

@ ALDABRAMAN that pic is awesome, looks like he melted.

Peanut (Sulcata) sleeps sprawled out, when we bought him the guy told us he probably would and not to assume he was dead.

My Redfoots sleep all tucked in in there hide buried deep.

I think species may have to do with it and a sense of safety. When I got my Hermanns they slept all tucked in or buried, but now during the day they can be seen sprawled out.

I think it can depend on how warm the tort is at the moment...if very warm, mine tend to sprawl...if cooler, they tend to sleep tucked in.

Anyone else notice this?

I agree. That would explain Emrys tucking in when he's in his hide at night.

Mine are a mix too.... and I agree with the heat thing - when it's warmer they tend to sprawl, the colder it is, the less legs I see!

I agree, it seems to be temperature related. Have you noticed they sleep counter-clockwise (looking from above)? Why is that?

My Toothless also sleeps completely sprawled out. It worried me at first so I always ended up waking him up!

I have never seen Dusty asleep! He goes in his hide and comes out in the morning. Even if I lift up the log he's awake. Maybe he needs one of my Ambien:) love your pics!
