Digging? Need advice

I they dog just to dig or is it because of needing humidity or being too warm???

They dig for shelter and security and they dig to escape extreme heat.

So if I live in a high humid place that doesn't get very hot they won't dig??
See I live in humboldt California. The pet store person didn't mention digging so maybe it's not a problem around here??
